McKenzie High School

McKenzie’s new high school was completed in December 1997. The facility is approximately 107,000 square feet. The school has an average enrollment of 440 students.

Courses

Courses offered by McKenzie High School include: Applied Communications, Math for Technology, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Software Tools, Desktop Publishing, Technological Presentation, Art Appreciation, Theater Arts, Instrumental Music, Drivers Education, and Physical Education.

Students are also offered the following vocational/technical courses:

Football, Golf, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Tennis, Soccer, Cross Country, Track & Field and Cheerleading teams are active at McKenzie High School.

Bethel College

Bethel College is a four-year accredited liberal arts school with an average enrollment of approximately 1,800 students. Bethel College was founded in 1842 and is the only college sponsored by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The school is chartered by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Bethel offers the Master of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Science degrees through a variety of academic programs. The school is progressive in its teaching techniques. In 1998, Bethel became Tennessee’s first “Think Pad” university. The “ThinkPad” program provides each full time student with a portable laptop computer to aid in studies.

bullet Bethel offers the SUCCESS program, which is specifically designed to enable returning adults an opportunity to earn a bachelors degree while continuing employment.
 
bullet The “Awesome House”, founded in October 2007, serves as an autism resource center. In addition to support for parents and students, the institute educates the community about autism and serves as a place where Bethel students can perform internships and get the opportunity to work with children with autism spectrum disorders.
 
bullet The RN Nursing program was added in 2005.
 
bullet Bethel added the Physician’s Assistant program in 2004. The program is one of only two in Tennessee. The 2005 class consisted of students from 14 states, including Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, Idaho, Texas, Illinois, Colorado, Virginia, Utah, Georgia, and California.
 
bullet Also new in 2004, "Renaissance: The Bethel Musical Experience" opened to rave reviews from the community. The college also sponsors theatrical productions and art shows and is the setting for a number of community arts events.
 
bullet Prosser Hall built in 2004 and Wildcat Cove, and apartment complex, was purchased in 2006 to help house the burgeoning student population.

Sports

In addition to academic programs, students have the opportunity to participate in Football, Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball, Track and Tennis. A new football stadium, soccer field and tennis courts were constructed in the summer of 2006.

Tennessee Technology Center

The Tennessee Technology Center at McKenzie, established in 1965 under the State Board of Education, provides post secondary education in the technical field.

Tennessee Technology Center at McKenzie offers programs in Automotive Technology, Business Systems Technology, Computer Operations Technology, Electronics Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Machine Tool Technology, Practical Nursing, Welding Technology, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Regents Online Degree Program and numerous Night Classes are also available.

Tennessee Technology Center is willing to work with industries that request specific training. Blueprint Reading and Computer Training are two courses that have currently been added due to the request from local business and industry. Additionally, instructors are available to provide “on-site” training.
